HeadlessUnit

Use Android Auto directly on your phone or tablet screen.

HeadlessUnit lets you use Android Auto directly on your Android device's screen, without needing a supported car head unit.

Your device must have Android Auto installed and support wireless Android Auto.

Features:

- Android Auto UI stream up to 1440p@60Hz, with H.265 encoding, and automatic aspect ratio adjustment to fit device screen

- Supports Intents, so you can integrate with automation apps

- Auto day/night mode based on sunrise/sunset (requires location permission)

- A modern tech stack (Kotlin + Compose + Rust)

How to use:

- Open the app and wait for Android Auto to connect.

- Once connected, follow the instructions on screen.

- Use the menu button in the top left corner to access app settings.

- If the menu button is hidden, swipe right from the upper left edge to reveal it.

How it works:

HeadlessUnit serves as a virtual head unit on your device and communicates with Android Auto locally.
