The book Inspiration of the Pen is a literary work by Mustafa Sadiq Al-Rafi’i, and it is considered one of the most beautiful things Al-Rafi’i wrote. The book consists of three parts, which is a collection of his critical and constructive articles inspired by contemporary social life, stories, and Islamic history scattered in many famous Egyptian newspapers and magazines at the beginning of the last century, such as : Al-Risalah, Al-Muayyad newspaper, Al-Balagh, Al-Muqtataf, Al-Seyassah, and others. The book brings together all of Al-Rafi’i’s literary characteristics, clearly distinguished in its style. It also brings together all of his mental and psychological characteristics, clearly distinguished in its subject matter. It contains his character and religion, his youth and emotion, his strictness and dignity, his humor and joy, and his anger and indignation. Whoever wants to know Al-Rafi’i knows opinion and idea. Moreover, it is the first book that he created in his own style and method. Al-Rafi’i lived as long as he lived, writing for himself and publishing for himself. He did not care about what he wrote and published except to transform an idea in his head, or a glimpse in his mind, or a beat in his heart, into an expression on his tongue or a meaning in his collections. After that, he does not have to convey its meaning to his reader as he wanted it to, or to be closed without him. When his reason connected with the “Al-Risalah” magazine*, he saw that his reader had a greater right over him than he had a right to himself, and this was his new style with which he created the book.”
