It signed "on the air" on June 6, 1947. The late, legendary Bishop R. F. Davis (Greater Highway Churches) purchased WJAY-AM 1280 in the 1980's and operated it as a black gospel music format. During Bishop Davis' ownership an FM translator (93.THREE) was purchased to expand the AM signals coverage.
