পবিত্র কুরআনে মাত্র দু’জায়গায় হযরত ইলিয়াস (আঃ)-এর আলোচনা দেখা যায়। সূরা আন‘আম ৮৫ আয়াতে ও সূরা ছাফফাত ১২৩-১৩২ আয়াতে। সূরা আন‘আমে ৮৩-৮৫ আয়াতে ১৮ জন নবীর তালিকায় তাঁর নাম রয়েছে। সেখানে কোন আলোচনা স্থান পায়নি। তবে সূরা ছাফফাতে সংক্ষেপে হ’লেও তাঁর দাওয়াতের বিষয়ে আলোকপাত করা হয়েছে। ঐতিহাসিক বর্ণনায় এ বিষয়ে প্রায় সবাই একমত যে, তিনি হযরত হিয্ক্বীল (আঃ)-এর পর এবং হযরত আল-ইয়াসা‘ (আঃ)-এর পূর্বে দামেষ্কের পশ্চিমে বা‘লা বাক্কা (بعلبك) অঞ্চলের বনু ইস্রাঈলগণের প্রতি প্রেরিত হয়েছিলেন। এই সময় হযরত সুলায়মান (আঃ)-এর উত্তরসুরীদের অপকর্মের দরুণ বনু ইস্রাঈলের সাম্রাজ্য দু’ভাগে বিভক্ত হয়ে পড়েছিল। এক ভাগকে ‘ইয়াহূদিয়াহ’ বলা হ’ত এবং তাদের রাজধানী ছিল বায়তুল মুক্বাদ্দাসে। অপর ভাগের নাম ছিল ‘ইস্রাঈল’ এবং তাদের রাজধানী ছিল তৎকালীন সামেরাহ এবং বর্তমান নাবলুসে।

Prophets in Islam (Arabic: الأنبياء في الإسلام‎‎) include "messengers" (rasul, pl. rusul), bringers of a divine revelation via an angel (Arabic: ملائكة, jibreel); and "prophets" (nabī, pl. anbiyāʼ), lawbringers that Muslims believe were sent by God to every people, bringing God's message in a language they can understand. Muslims believe the first prophet was also the first human being, Adam (Adem). Many of the revelations delivered by the 48 prophets in Judaism and many prophets of Christianity are mentioned as such in the Quran but usually in altered form and with different names. For example, the Jewish Elisha is called Alyasa, Job is Ayyub, Jesus is Isa, etc. The Torah given to Moses (Musa) is called Tawrat, the Psalms given to David (Dawud) is the Zabur, the Gospel given to Jesus is Injil). Notwithstanding, none of the seven Jewish Prophetesses are mentioned in the Quran as prophets.
