As the name implies, the ITence Advanced Softkeyboard is full of advanced features to make text input fast and easy. A unique layout design combined with the underlying implementation guide users enhance their typing experience. The whole idea behind the ITence Advanced Softkeyboard project is to provide users with a better input method environment that eliminates the shortcomings in the existing ones. How is this possible?

To make use of a single colorful layout to represent the whole character set is the first approach.

This eliminates the need for “shifting” as is the case in some apps for similar purposes where some of the character set is given by the default layout and the other half by tapping on a shift-button. Such an approach of a colorful layout eliminates the need for “shifting”, which simply slows down the process of writing unnecessarily.

In this single layout approach, two characters are displayed almost on every button- one on the bottom left corner and the other on the right upper one; and “shifting” has been replaced by single and double tapping. Tapping once inserts the character displayed on the left bottom corner and two consecutive taps insert the one on the upper right corner.

As you know, the Geez character set is made up of many alphabets that it is hard to have them all displayed on a single layout. So, how do users get access to the rest, the ones that are not already on the layout then? The answer to this question, in fact, is what makes the ITence Advanced Softkeyboard special. As mentioned above, the layout is colorful to differentiate in between so called base characters and modified replicas of such. The base characters are displayed in white while the replicas are in orange.

Every time a user taps on a base character button, the layout changes dynamically in order to display the modified replicas of the base character. Conceptually, the buttons displayed in orange are redrawn to reflect the necessary change guiding the user where to tap next.

The most special feature that makes the ITence Advanced Softkeyboard different is its error correcting capability. If you happen to insert a wrong modified replica of a base character, please don't delete. Just, move the cursor behind the replica you need to correct. At this point, the layout has adjusted itself to enable you re-modify the erroneous character by tapping at the right replica and that it is!
