Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay has employed his pencil primarily on family and societal storylines and for the majority of his writing span, he failed to attempt to reach any political problem. This is the only novel which has a political backdrop detailing the actions of the freedom fighters fighting for their motherland.

The narrative takes off when Apoorva gets a paying job (Myanmar's capital which was then called Burma). His mom, Karunamayi who was dreaming to organize his union using a spiritual Braahmin woman, becomes not glad to send him abroad but seeing her older son's approach towards non-bringing in Apoorva, she hesitantly agrees for that. Yet to ensure that Apoorva will not confront any food-related issues in the foreign land, a Braahmin cook is sent by her, Tiwari alongwith him.
