Three additional stories were included in the 1925 American edition of this book, published by Dodd, Mead and Company. The dust jacket of the UK first edition contained an illustration of Poirot by W. Smithson Broadhead, taken from The Sketch magazine's 21 March 1923 issue.

Miss Mary Marvell, the famed American cinema star, pays Poirot a visit on her tour to London. She's gotten three letters from a Chinese man, warning her to return her magnificent diamond ring, the "Western Star," to where it originated from - an idol's left eye – before the next full moon. Mary received the jewel three years ago from her husband, Gregory Rolf, who purchased it from a Chinese man in San Francisco. When the moon is next full, the two are going to stay at Yardly Chase, the house of Lord and Lady Yardly, to discuss the production of a film there, and Mary is determined to bring her diamond.
