The story, How the Dream of the Chola King Parthiban Fulfilled by His Son

Dream of Parthiban is a famous Tamil historical novel by Amarar Kalki (1899-1954). Although it is known as a novel, it is written based on characters and events in history. In this story, it is beautifully told how the dream of the Chola king, Pariphipan, was fulfilled by his son. Historical characters such as Narasimha Pallavan and Siruttondar alias Paranjothi come into the story.

Story Summary:

The Chola Empire which once was an empire became a slave to the Pallavas. The Pallavas are a small state with no freedom to pay. The Chola king Parthipan informs his son Vikraman that the Chola government should regain its lost fame.

Parthipan, who refuses to pay tribute to the Pallava king Narasimhavarman, dies bravely against the Pallava king. The story tells how the Chola country gained independence from the Pallavas. The bulk of the story revolves around the Chola prince Wickraman, the sailboat Ponnan, Ponnan's wife Valli and the Chola general, Marappa Bhupathi.

In the meantime, someone comes in the guise of a Shiva devotee and helps the prince. Narasimha, the Pallava Emperor, was not a person who came to this Shiva disguise later. At the same time, the story also shows anti-Narasimha's actions. There are also incidents of one of the 63 Nayanas known as the Paranjodhi Adhi or the Kurudondar.

Churutondar was the commander-in-chief of Narasimha's army as far as Vadapi and killed the Pulikesi in his capital, Vadapi.
