In 1886, the German inventor Gottlieb Daimler improved the internal combustion engine with the help of Wilhelm Maybach in the town of Cannstatt near Stuttgart (Kingdom of Württemberg).

In 1890, they then founded the company "Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft" (DMG) with Paul Daimler (son of Gottlieb) who succeeded him after his death in 1900. DMG mainly produced engines.

In 1896, DMG entered the era of the automobile industry with the creation of its first truck with a GVW of 1.5 tons and a rear engine.
