A tool for the photographic documentation of language in the city.

Language in the city meets us everywhere. Signs of all kinds define public space and provide information about the social order, cultural diversity and creativity of people in the city.

LinguaSnappHamburg is a tool for the photographic documentation of language in the city - a new kind of language research, which we operate at the University of Hamburg.

With this app you can document language on public signs and buildings and describe it according to different criteria. The photos are transmitted encrypted to a server of the University of Hamburg. After being approved by the project team, they land on an online city map where they can be viewed and researched in public.

LinguaSnappHamburg is offered and maintained by the University of Hamburg on the basis of a software developed at the University of Manchester. The app can be freely downloaded and used as well as used for project work in schools and colleges.
