Thanks to Countdown Days app and its widgets, this will never happen anymore.

Use the application to display widgets on screens and/or topbar notifications. The number of days remaining until your event will be displayed.

To add a widget, have a long press on the homescreen and select the desired size. Countdown Days will display a popup allowing you the select the event you want to associate to the widget.
