State Central Library is the apex body of the Library System in the State. It was established in 1956 at Emerald Bower at 56, B.T.Road. It has subsequently been shifted to its present location at Ultadanga, Kolkata in 1996. It was now a six stored building having all sorts of modern amenities situated in a well – populated area connected with well organized transport facilities to satisfy its clientele. It has been rendering following Library Services - . Lending books for home reading . Reading room service . Reference service . Bibliographical service . Career Guidance [ book support ] . Service to children readers . Service to visually challenged users . Reprography service Apart from these, it is the nerve centre of various other library activities of the State. It is implementing the special programmes for the public libraries with the assistance of Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation against the Matching Schemes created by equal contributions of State Government &Central Government and Non Matching Schemes. SCL application comes with a lot of facilities for the users.It provides Map(nearby Libraries,ATMs,Schools etc),also the users are able to get the latest event notifications to their phone.
