Shani is a deity in medieval era texts, who is considered inauspicious and is feared for delivering misfortune and loss to those who deserve it.He is also capable of conferring boons and blessings to the worthy, depending upon their karma. In medieval Hindu literature, inconsistent mythologies sometimes refer to him as the son of Sun and Chhaya (shadow), or as the son of Balarama and Revati.His alternate names include Ara, Kona and Kroda.

Shani is the basis for Shanivara – one of the seven days that make a week in the Hindu calendar

Mantra

"Nilanjana Samabhasam,

Raviputram Yamaagrajam,

Chhaya Maartanda Sambhootam,

Tham Namaami Shanaishcharam"

and

"Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namaha"

शनि देव को न्याय का देवता माना जाता है। मनुष्य द्वारा किए गए पापों का दंड शनि देव ही देते हैं। शनि देव की आराधना करने से गृह क्लेश समाप्त हो जाता है तथा घर में सुख-समृद्धि का वास होता है। इनकी उपासना से कार्यों में आने वाली दिक्कतें खत्म हो जाती हैं।
