Imagine that there is an election in Barcelona and there are 1 million people called to vote.

The average cost per vote in the western countries is $6 per vote. That means that the cost of this election would be $6M.

Here at Igloovote we think that these $6M represent unnecessary sunk costs. Personally we want our political representatives to listen more often to the will of the majority by using direct democracy. Therefore we have patented a technology that makes it possible to vote on the Internet for a fraction of that current cost of $6 per vote.

The Igloovote technology is inspired by the Bitcoin concept of using a distributed architecture. The vote is anonym and doesn’t require any human supervision. It is as safe as Bitcoin and you only need a modern device, like a smartphone, to vote.

Igloovote is a mix of the advantages of traditional voting systems and online voting systems. The main advantage of traditional voting systems is that security relies in multiple points of failure. If a polling place is compromised, only the votes of that polling place are compromised. Organizing an attack against all polling places is unthinkable.

The main idea behind Igloovote is making distributed elections, with a lot of points of failure needed to compromise an election. Non-surprisingly Internet is a great tool for achieving that. In fact, the use of Internet permits elections to rely on a lot more points of failure. You don’t need a point of failure for every few thousand voters. You can even have a point of failure for every 10 or 20 voters. So, there isn’t a central point of failure that needs special security measures.

The fact that you can have a reduced number of voters for every point of failure makes possible checking results on randomly selected points of failure.
