What is Gambling?

Gambling addiction is an urge to gamble continuously despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. Problem gambling is often defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others, rather than by the gambler's behaviour.

Research shows individuals who have money problems, win large amounts of money early into gambling, suffer rec losses like divorce, job losses are at an increased risk of developing compulsive gambling.

Symptoms of a gambling addiction may include:

1. A preoccupation with gambling and loss of interest in other hobbies.

2. Increasing the quantities gambled to recoup lost bets or to experience the same thrill.

3. A negative impact upon relationships with those closest to you.

4. Concealing the amount of money and time spent betting from family members.

5. Stealing money in order to gamble.

6. Denial that you have a problem.
