The Police was formed by the drummer Stewart Copeland in London around 1977. Initially the band was Stewart Copeland (drums), Sting (vocal / bass), and Henry Padovani (guitar). Soon guitarist Andy Summers joined the group.

Henry Padovani's limited ability led him to resign and the guitarist's position was taken over completely by Andy.

The Police's first album, OUTLANDOS D'AMOUR, was released after they got a record deal from A & M Records. During the period from 1977 to about 1984 the group has produced 5 albums: OUTLANDOS D'AMOUR, REGGATTA DE BLANC, ZENYATTA MONDATTA, GHOST IN THE MACHINE, and SYNCHRONICITY.

Officially the band never broke up but the personnel then concentrate more on their solo career and never again produce the album. During his life, Sting, who had been an English teacher proved to be a brilliant songwriter. Sting's lyrics are judged to have high literary value.

Early 2007 yesterday, The Police had to do a series of their reunion tour which also commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of this legendary group.
