Muhammadiyah as an Islamic preaching movement amar ma'ruf nahi mungkar, in carrying out its preaching faces three targets, namely the main target, general targets and specific targets. The main target is all members of the Muhammadiyah organization, and the general target is all Muslims and Muslim women. Meanwhile, special targets are community groups that have special characteristics or are called special communities.

As time goes by, Muhammadiyah continues to perfect its concept of da'wah, in accordance with developments and the challenges of the times it faces. At the 36th Muhammadiyah Congress in Padang, Muhammadiyah firmly and clearly declared the concept of Present Da'wah. Today's da'wah is a major Muhammadiyah da'wah project with the aim of anticipating the flow of modernization which is developing so quickly in Indonesia which has a negative influence on the development of the progress of Islam and its ummah.

Considering that today's da'wah program is considered quite difficult to implement, the program is broken down into several parts, one of which is da'wah to isolated communities. At the 41st Muhammadiyah Congress in Solo 1985, the Special Da'wah Institute (LDK) was formed. The word "special" describes that the da'wah program organized by LDK is aimed at certain social segments, namely da'wah for remote areas and isolated tribes. However, along the way, with several considerations, the LDK was merged into the Tabligh Council so that the name of the assembly changed to the Special Tabligh and Da'wah Council (MTDK).

At the Makassar Congress it was also decided to separate special da'wah from MTDK so that the Special Da'wah Institute (LDK) was re-formed. In the 47th Tanfidz Muktamar, it was emphasized that the leading sector was responsible for various target communities for the da'wah formulated at the Muktamar. It was stated that LDK was given the mandate (leading sector) to preach to upper class communities, lower class communities, middle class communities and virtual world communities.

In this way, the LDK's task, which previously only handled da'wah in the interior, has increased by four areas of focus so that the total becomes 5 target objects of da'wah, namely: (1) preaching to upper class communities, (2) lower class communities, (3) middle class communities, (4) virtual world community, (5) da'wah for rural communities. In connection with this, it is important to have a guidebook so that the task of da'wah as mandated by the Muktamar can run well.
