The Political Constitution of Costa Rica of 1949 is the fundamental law in force in Costa Rica and was approved on November 7, 1949, as a new project of the Second Republic, generated by the political unrest that the country suffered in 1948. The Constitution proclaims a democratic, free, multiethnic, and multicultural republic. Establishes individual and social rights and guarantees; political rights and duties; and duties and powers of those who exercise the Executive Power. It pronounces on the Judicial Branch, the Comptroller General, and the public treasury.
