This app provides a Virtual Reality (VR) experience to users who are interested in learning about the intermembrane transport and mitochondrial functions. With a simple cardboard goggle, users can visualize the structure of two mitochondrial membranes and the key enzymes responsible for the transport of long-chain fatty acids. This app aims to highlight the biochemical roles of carnitine in the transport of fatty acids into mitochondria with transporters, transferases and acyl-CoA synthetases. The animation of the mitochondrial membrane transport can be replayed or adjusted manually by clicking the control buttons. User are also advised to download its companion app “Mitochon VR” which illustrates the molecular processes in the mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC).
