About Cadence & Distance from Accelerometer & GPS Log

Analyse run cadence and distance covered from accelerometer and GPS log files

An app to analyse run distance, intensity, and cadence from accelerometer and GPS data logged simultaneously with the GPS Logger and the Accelerometer Logger apps.

The app is meant to be useful as a way to track loading and progress in running for endurance. The results are saved into a text-file (folder

/dataLogger/runAna) using the UTC time-stamps from the original file, which enables combining and synchronising the data with elevation data extracted using the GPS Log Elevation Fetch app, and heart rate data logged using the Bluetooth LE Heart Rate Logger app. The result files are intended for further detailed analysis using some other software, e.g. GNU Octave .

FEATURES:

-Visualises both measured and reduced (Ramer–Douglas–Peucker series reduction to minimise effects of noise on the distance measure) coordinates on Google Maps API map, and shows the corresponding speed profile in a GraphView graph.

-Picks an accelerometry log file started within two minutes of the GPS log file based on file name for analysis, analyses mean amplitude deviation (a measure of intensity), and cadence (steps per second) based on least-squares-spectrum analysis (cadence analysed essentially by implementating the method I reported in Rantalainen et al J Appl Biomech. 2016 Aug;32(4):401-6. doi: 10.1123/jab.2015-0266.).

-Provides an estimate of entropy for each of the 5 s epochs of accelerometry analysis with McDonald-Kreitman test using the GTest implementation from Apache Commons Math.

-Writes the results to tab-separated text files in folder /dataLogger/runAna (one for GPS-based data and another file for the accelerometry-based data).

OF NOTE

-Cadence analysis is done in 5 s epochs that overlap by 4 s, that is once every 1 s, and the frequencies considered range from 0.5 Hz to 3.3 Hz.
