This book intends to summarize the life history of the most influential figures of the Indonesian nation in the twentieth century. They can be protagonists or antagonists. They could be a unifying hero of the nation, they could also be a figure of a separatist movement. They can be a political figure, they can also come from the world of art or business. The criterion is that what they have done has had an impact on this nation for a long time, perhaps far longer than their own lives. The listing of the names of figures is sorted alphabetically, and not based on how big or small their influence was on Indonesian history.

The figures contained in this book only had a strong role in the history of this country in the 20th century. Therefore, great souls such as Prince Diponegoro, Teuku Umar, Tuanku Imam BonjoI, Gadjah Mada, Pattimura, and many other names were acting before the 20th century, we have not included it in this book. Likewise, those who gained momentum for their struggle only came after the end of the 20th century, such as Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, have not been published here.
