About the book:

Originally published in German in 1952, "Briefe an Milena", it was edited by Willie Haass who decided to delete some passages that I think might hurt some people who were still alive at the time. The first English version of this set of messages dates back to 1953, translated by James and Tanya Stern. The letters were published again in German after the recapitulation of the deleted paragraphs in 1986, followed by an English translation by Philippe Boyhm in 1990. This edition included some of Melina's letters to Max Brod, in addition to four articles written and written by Kafka.
