The Story of a Career ”, written in 1936, is a novel about the relationship between power and a creative person. It tells the story of the life of Hendrik Hefgen, a successful actor, director and intendant in the capital's theater, who betrays his talent for his career, position and money. Making compromises with his conscience, Hefgen becomes an accomplice in the crimes of the fascist regime. In 1981, Hungarian director Istvan Szabo filmed the book. The main role in the film is played by Klaus Maria Brandauer.
