Timer that rings at regular intervals (25min), separated by short breaks (5min).
I create this simple timer app to use with the Pomodoro Study Technique ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique ).
The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. These intervals are called pomodoros, the plural in English of the Italian word pomodoro, which means tomato. The method is based on the idea that frequent breaks can improve mental agility.
This app is a simple rendition of the technique.
Instructions:
1) Set the Task Name when you have decided on the task to be done
2) Decide on the work interval (default is 25 minnutes)
3) Press play to start the 'task' timer, and begin working on the task until the alarm rings.
4) If a distraction pops into your head, click on "Interruptions" to open a dialog to write it down, and immediately get back on task.
5) A "tomato" check appears when the task timer rings.
6) Press play to start the 'break' timer, and take a short break until the timer rings again, then go to step 3 again.
When there are four "tomato" checks, the break timer will be longer. once the break is over, the "tomato" checks are reset to zero, and the number of set is incremented.
7) Press "Stop" when the task is complete or abandoned. A popup will appear with the option to save the session.
A goal of the technique is to reduce the impact of internal and external interruptions on focus and flow. When interrupted during a set, either the other activity must be recorded and postponed (inform – negotiate – schedule – call back) or the task activity is abandoned.
