The novel The Satanic Verses includes Islam and God as characters in this novel. Salman was inspired by the life story of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. In this novel, the main character named Mahound (who most likely refers to the Prophet Muhammad) is told in parallel with two other characters, Gibreel Faristha and Saladin Chamcha.

The story of this novel is set in Mahound's life in the Jahiliyah era (an era where people still worshiped idols before the revelation of the Holy Quran) in the form of a dream or vision from Gibreel, it is told that the Mediator had a difficult choice to compromise with the tools of polytheism (a system that adheres to more than one God in Jahiliyah society).

At the same time, Mahound wanted to introduce the public to monotheism (the opposite of polytheism, belief in one God), this was opposed by the local community. The Jahiliyah community was willing to compromise as long as Mahound was willing to recognize their gods (alat, statues in the form of women, Uzzah and Manna), as equal to God, and the entire Jahiliyah community would worship Mahound's God, and if Mahound refused they would be hated and exiled.

After that Mahound went to look for Revelation, some time later he returned to the midst of the Jahiliyah community and said that he had received Revelation from Gabriel that the three Gods would be recognized as equal to Allah.

However, after going up to the mountain again to look for Revelation he then returned and said that the first Revelation was from Satan and must be destroyed from the written records that had been made, as a result of his words Mahound and his followers fled from Jahiliyah.

In the second part, the novel The Satanic verses, tells the story of a character named Ayesha, who is Mahound's young wife and the beginning of the polygamy system in the beliefs spread by Mahound.
